Mercure Rouen Centre Cathedrale
Right in the centre of Rouen, at the foot of one of the most beautiful cathedrals in France, the Mercure Rouen Centre is an ideal hotel for exploring the attractions of this medieval city including the Old Market Square and the Gros Horloge clock tower. Day 1
You will collected from your pick up point and transferred to Folkestone, where we will take the Euro Tunnel to Calais. Once in Calais we head south into Normandy and arrive at the hotel in the centre of Rouen later that day. Tastefully restored following the ravages of WWII, the city manages to maintain its medieval charm with the colourful Gros Horloge clock and startling Notre Dame Cathedral.
Day 2
After breakfast the day will be at leisure to explore Rouen and its' Christmas Market. Place de la Cathedrale is the venue for Rouen's annual festive market - its opening is the signal for Christmas lights to be lit throughout the City. Expect to see everything from hand crafted gifts to waffles and local Normandy cheeses. Chalets also display food, wine and arts and crafts from the South of France, so visitors can purchase delicacies such as Provencal honey, lavender and olives.
Day 3
Today after breakfast we board the coach for a day's excursion to the Alabaster Coast and the coastal town of Fecamp to visit the Benedictine Palace and the liquer distillery (entrance not included). This visit includes the restored Benedictine Palace where you will have a guided tour followed by an introduction to the making of the world famous Benedictine liquer, followed by a tasting or two...
We will also visit the quaint seaside resort of Etretat famous for the Monet paintings and then onto Calvados Brewery for a guided tour followed by tastings (entrance fee not included). A visit will then be made to the pretty seaside town of Honfleur before returning to the hotel.
Day 4
After a final breakfast the time has come for us to depart from Rouen and head towards Calais for the return Euro Tunnel crossing to Folkestone. An en route visit will be made to the Cite d'Europe Shopping Centre if time permits.
